There are useful activities and honorable designations but a temporary vocation is not reflective of our true identities. In the brief season of our existence we may serve as plumber, professor, farmer, physician, mechanic, bookkeeper, or teacher. With this imprint on our hearts, we are freer to define our lives in Christ-like ways and to leave behind that which takes us away from heavenly things.Įlder Neal Maxwell has shared these profound words regarding our true identities: “Having faith in the plan of salvation includes steadfastly refusing to be diverted from our true identities and responsibilities. It matters that we gain an understanding of our profoundly personal relationship to our heavenly parents and to our elder brother and Savior, Jesus Christ.
